Lumiere Ballet Graded Curriculum

Level Description
Kinder Ballet - I
(ages 4½ - 6)
Creative movement engaging the child's imagination. Age appropriate rhythmic exercises are practiced: skipping, hopping, chassé. Steps and movements are practiced mostly to piano music, sometimes to drum beat and sometimes to orchestral music.
Ballet II
(ages 6½ - 9)
Students learn positions of the legs and arms and are introduced to basic Ballet steps. They are guided into formal training and begin to acquire performing skills. This stage of learning is vital for proper body alignment and for setting good learning habits.
Ballet III
(ages 9-12)
From Pliè to Grands Battements, the barre includes 14 other Ballet terms which refer to movemnts practiced in various patterns. In the center, pirouettes, small and medium jumps are learned. The students are gradually immersed in a comprehensive class. Students are introduced to character dance and pointe work at the barre.
Ballet IV
(ages 10-13)
The students will show progressive technical strength and equilibrium at the Barre and in the Center. Ballet technique classes and character classes for levels III & IV are held together. Pointe classes are held separately.
Ballet VI -VII
(ages 12 and up)
Practice includes multiple Pirouettes, Grand Adagio, Petit and Grand Allegro and Beats. Point work increases in difficulty and the students are ready for studies in Partnering. Students learn classical and new repertoire in Point and Variation class, rehearsals and performances.
Professional
(ages 17 and up)
For dancers with a strong technique in classical ballet and a significant performing experience. The technical and artistic demands are increased. Refinement and purity of movement is strived for. Major and lead roles are given.
Adult Open classes offered three times per week are suitable for adults with prior training. The adult with minimal training can easily progress to a higher level when attending at least 2 classes per week and eventually draw all the benefits of the intermediate level comprehensive class.
Open Level This class is offered once a week to improve placement and basic technique.
